When hiring a car from us we can offer you the convenience of dropping at any one of these other locations – there are some fees that apply to this so please contact us to find out more. Being allowed to return your rental car to a different location also includes the ability to take your rental car across the Cook Strait on the ferry.

From time to time, when we need to transfer rental cars between different locations we will also have very special, extra cheap rental cars on offer for short term rentals. This normally works very well when students want to quickly get between main population centres or if you just need a quick trip for business.

Can I leave my car at your office when I pick up me rental car?

By special arrangement we can help you to take care of your vehicle when you are renting one of our cars. There is no charge for this, but we do need you to leave your keys with us while you are driving your hire car.

YES – if you would like to pay for your rental car via Mastercard or Visa there is a processing fee of 2% on the car hire only. We do NOT charge any transaction fees on our value added services for car hires for items such as GPS, Child Seat or our Blue Tooth Receivers that allow you to play your own music.

Why are flight details important?

When you make a rental car booking with us we ask for the flight details for two reasons

  • We monitor you flight for early arrivals / delays so that we know when our rental car transfer shuttle needs to be ready to come and pick you up
  • We can check your flight timing so that we know if you are arriving during business hours or if we need to use our after-hours agent to arrange your car pickup / drop-off.
How old do I need to be to hire a car?

So long as you are 18 years old and licensed to drive then we can rent a car to you.

We do need to be aware though that we only offer our “Peace of Mind” reduced excess insurance (this reduces your excess / deductible to only $250 + GST from the original $1,500 + GST) to drivers that are over 25.

If you would like to explore your insurance options in more detail – we are happy to talk to you.

One option that we can offer to drivers under 25 is “Zero Excess on Windscreens” – this means that if you are unfortunate and get a stone chip or broken window during your car hire we will replace / repair the window with no need for you to pull your wallet out of your pocket.

Does your quote include all fees and charges?

YES – when we provide you with a rental car quote it itemises ALL fees, charges and extras. We are very proud of, and take particular care to explain everything to you when you hire one of our cars. We also very much welcome questions – the more that you know the better prepared you are for your car hire experience.

The most common misunderstanding that we like to pre-empt is the “per kilometre” charge. For hires of THREE days or less, the car comes with 150 km free, there is a charge for extra kilometres beyond this – HOWEVER, if you have a day trip to (for example) Timaru planned, we can work out an “all inclusive” rental car rate that gives you the assurance of no extra charges.

For our full size 4WD rental vehicles – most of these are diesels, so there are government imposed Road User Charges, which amount to 6 cents per km travelled. For this we calculate the actual distance travelled and fix up the road user charges at the end of your car hire. The great thing here is that diesel is about 40% cheaper than petrol in New Zealand, so even after paying the Road User Charges you are still saving money for your rental car when you hire one of our full size 4WDs.

Can anyone other than myself drive the vehicle?

For insurance purposes everybody that is driving your rental car must be named on the agreement. We offer additional drivers free of charge. To make picking up your rental car fast, friendly and convenient we do ask for all driver details ahead of time, however it is also fast and painless to add drivers when you are picking up your car.

If, for whatever reason, not all drivers will be with you when you pick up your rental car we can arrange for additional drivers to sign the agreement via email – which gives you added convenience and the security of knowing everybody is covered by insurance.

When it comes to a family travelling together in a single rental car – we should note that the excess / deductible applicable depends upon the age of the driver. Also – our reduced excess ‘Peace of Mind’ insurance only applies to drivers over 25.
